Abstract

Objective: This research aims to understand how citizens perceive the influence of media on their political socialization and on the construction of their civic identity, analyzing the relationship between media and political socialization processes within the framework of contemporary dynamics of citizenship construction. Justification: In a context characterized by the expansion of digital media and the reconfiguration of the public sphere, media have become key actors in the formation of political values, attitudes, and meanings, since through their discourses and narratives they influence the way citizens interpret political reality and participate in democratic life. Methodology: The study employed a qualitative approach based on the focus group technique, which allowed the exploration of participants’ experiences and perceptions regarding media consumption and its relationship with the understanding of political processes. Results: The findings show that media play a relevant role in political socialization processes and contribute to the construction of citizenship by influencing the formation of opinions, attitudes, and forms of political participation. Conclusions: Although media constitute an important actor in the construction of citizenship in contemporary democracies, they also pose significant challenges, particularly in relation to phenomena such as misinformation and polarization that affect the configuration of public debate and the quality of democratic participation.
