Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must review the Structural Format for Research Articles, which can be downloaded in Format. In turn are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

International Social Research Journal is a continuous publication that meets national and international scientific and academic standards. It has an open access policy and is available in electronic format through the Open Journal Systems (OJS). This open and plural space is dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge in various disciplines of the social sciences. It publishes original and unpublished scientific articles that address topics related to the social sciences.

For this reason, the Editorial Team of Social Research Journal is dedicated to strengthening scientific and editorial quality, demanding the originality of each article submitted for publication. Below are some general considerations that researchers should take into account when submitting their work to the journal:

For authors interested in submitting their contributions to the journal, it is essential that the text meets the characteristics of the typologies of articles of scientific research results, theoretical review articles, editorials, and book reviews.

  • It must not have been previously published or submitted to evaluation processes in another journal.
  • The works must be written in Spanish and in electronic format: Word, letter size, Times New Roman font, 12 point, double-spaced, justified, except in tables and figures.
  • The articles must have a minimum length of 6,000 words and a maximum of 10,000 words, including references, tables and appendices.
  • The works must be sent through the Open Journal System (OJS) platform, which hosts the contents published by the journal. To do this, it is necessary for the interested party to create their profile in the section of the website with information for authors, where they fill out a form and send the document, indicating the type of article and compliance with the ethical standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics, COPE, and that they have carried out good research practices..

Structure for the presentation of articles

  • Title in English: It should describe the research object and not the objective, therefore it should not begin with a verb. The length should not exceed twelve (12) words. It should describe the content of the article. Avoid beginning with an article or preposition. It should be short, specific and informative.
  • Abstract: It should have a maximum of 200 words, written in the third person and in the past tense. It is suggested that it contain the following structure: Objective (general objective addressed by the article), Methodology developed (Methods, techniques, procedures and sample used for data collection and analysis), Results (main findings found, present them as they were found, without any interpretation and analysis), Conclusions and discussions (summary of the conclusions). Avoid citations, abbreviations and bibliographical references.
  • Keywords: are descriptive terms ordered alphabetically that represent the main content of the article. They should facilitate consultation in databases or thesaurus. They can be compound words separated by a comma (,), a quantity between 4 and 6 keywords is suggested.
  • Name of the Authors: (if you have a standardized signature, include it), institution or institutions to which you are linked (city and country of the institution), role played (Example: professor-researcher), "Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID)" code, and email addresses.
  • Acknowledgements and financial support: Include the Acknowledgements and financial support at the end of the article after the references, that is, do not include them on the title page, as a footnote to the title or otherwise.
  • Introduction: There must be coherence between the title, objective and results stated in the article. The problem, the problem question and the general and specific objectives, the definition of its variables, the limitations, the scope, the justification of the subject and the background are stated with citations in APA Standard, sixth version.
  • Development of the Work: You must make correct use of the language and its grammar. You must keep strict correspondence with the other sections of the work. The internal organization must be coherent and balanced. The empirical information must have the respective source and theoretical reference. The contribution of the authors of the article must be made clear. Copyright must be respected.
  • Method/Design: This section should mention the methodological design used to meet the objectives, as well as the materials, tools or resources used to develop the research. The research paradigm, the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the sample size. The research method and the way the data were analyzed. Also in this section you should explain the participants, who are the actors involved in the research, the size and type of the sample, sampling (probabilistic, non-probabilistic, simple random, statistic, or cluster), the way the sample was selected from the universe; the instruments, which are the research techniques that were applied, the type of instrument, and the description of the field work. Mention the fundamental reason for choosing the instrument used, describing its validity and reliability; and the procedure, which includes the phases or stages in which the research is developed (from the beginning to its culmination).
  • Results: The results must be clearly presented, taking into account the way they are expressed, if they are: Analytical, descriptive, evaluative, or comparative. The results may be presented in tables, figures, graphs, maps, and drawings. They must be presented in an orderly and sequential manner, which coincides with the objective proposed for the article. Statistical analysis must consider the level of the different variables involved in the research process. If there is a hypothesis, its approval or rejection must be clearly stipulated. Statistical analysis must consider each of the variables addressed, in a technical, qualitative, or quantitative manner.
  • Tables, Charts, and Graphs: The tables must be numbered consecutively. As well as the figures, which must be numbered independently of the tables. Each table or figure must be accompanied by a legend that clearly describes the material. The titles must account for the content of the information. The tables, figures, and photographs must be original by the author(s). If they are modifications or reproductions of another article, they must be accompanied by the corresponding editor's permission. Charts, graphs, tables, images and other elements must be included in the body of the text in an editable format or attached to the original programs in which they were made.
  • Discussion: The style of the discussion is argumentative, with judgments and controversies of the results themselves, with other similar authors according to the bibliographic review, including theoretical and practical implications, there must be theoretical contrast between authors, as well as the contribution of the researcher, urging future recommendations. Finally, the conclusion is given by answering the questions and the objective set, as well as future lines of research.
  • Conclusions: They should not constitute a repetition of the results. The conclusions should be a reflective reworking of the results with a high level of abstraction. It is different from a final reflection. Citations should be avoided.
  • References: it is closely related to the documents cited in the article, that is, only those that were used in its preparation are included. In addition, it must be arranged in strict alphabetical order at the end of the article, always adhering to international APA citation standards and including between 30 and 40 references, preferably citing other articles in scientific journals, which must be cited within the document.
  • Description of the research derivative: This is a brief description of the research project from which the article is derived.

Citation Forms (American Psychological Association APA)

Articles must present a correspondence between citations and references taking into account the publication standards of the American Psychological Association (APA). Below are some examples:

Textual or literal citation

The textual or literal citation extracts fragments or textual ideas as they appear in the original text and/or other published texts. In this case, the author's surname, the year of publication and the page(s) from which it is extracted are included. This varies according to the emphasis of the citation, which may be on the author or on the text.

Textual citation of 40 words or less

When the citation has less than 40 words, the text is included in the paragraph between English or Spanish quotation marks, a period is written after the end of the citation and all the data.

Quote of more than 40 words

Fragments that are extracted from the text as they appear and exceed 40 words are written separately from the paragraph, indented, with a smaller point in the same font that is being used, without quotation marks and, at the end, the point is placed before the data. As in the case of quotes of up to 40 words, it varies depending on whether the citation emphasis is on the author or on the text.

Quote with emphasis on the author

In the case of the Quality of Higher Education Institutions, Tunnermann (2008) states that “the concept of university quality is like the concept of beauty, we all know or perceive what it is, but we find it difficult to define it” (p. 20).

Quote with emphasis on the text

In the case of the quality of higher education institutions, it is stated that “the concept of university quality is like the concept of beauty, we all know or perceive what it is, but we find it difficult to define it” (Tunnermann, 2024, p.20).

Corporate social responsibility is an area that in recent years has had great importance for States, it is defined as:

“Corporate social responsibility is the set of legal and ethical obligations and commitments, both national and international, with stakeholders, these commitments can be in different areas such as social, environmental or human rights, from this perspective, CSR has a double functionality, on the one hand, the social function and on the other the economic function” (Baltodano-García and Guerrero-Vega, 2024, p.6)

Quote with emphasis on the author

Corporate social responsibility is an area that in recent years has had great importance for States,

Baltodano-García and Guerrero-Vega (2020) define it as: “Corporate social responsibility is the set of legal and ethical obligations and commitments, both national and international, with stakeholders. These commitments can be in different areas such as social, environmental or human rights. From this perspective, CSR has a double functionality, on the one hand, the social function and on the other the economic function” (p. 5)

Non-literal or paraphrased quotes

In this type of quote, the ideas of the author of the published text are expressed, not in literal form, but using the author's words or interpretations. When using them, it is necessary to include the author's last name and the year of publication. As in the previous examples, this way of citing varies depending on whether the citation emphasis is placed on the author or the text.

Rules according to the number of authors

Two authors: The initial surname of each author is indicated, separated by “and” for an article in Spanish and “&” for an article in English.

Corporate author: When it is the first time in the article, the full name of the corporation is placed followed by the acronym and finally the year, then only the acronym and the year are placed.

References

A reference list cites works that specifically support the article. Every author cited in the body of the article must be included in the reference list, therefore, an author who has not been cited in the paper should not be referenced. Likewise, the reference list is single-spaced, each reference should be indented and in alphabetical order by the authors' last names, Arabic numerals are used to indicate volumes, not Roman numerals, and between 30 to 40 references, preferably, citing other articles in scientific journals, which should be cited within the document.
