Abstract

Objective: This study analyzed individual factors associated with violence perpetrated by men receiving services from municipal social work departments in Apodaca, Nuevo León, in order to provide evidence for the design of preventive public policies with a human rights approach. Justification: The research was justified by the persistence of violence against women and the need to strengthen interventions targeting perpetrators at the municipal level. Methodology: A cross-sectional correlational design was applied using a questionnaire administered to a sample of 200 men receiving services between January 2024 and June 2025. Attitudes justifying violence, coercive control, jealousy or possessiveness, impulsivity and anger, and frequency of alcohol consumption were measured. Additionally, a standardized index of violence perpetrated with ordinal items was constructed. The analysis included internal consistency, descriptive statistics, bivariate associations, and regression models adjusted for sociodemographic variables. Results: The results indicated positive associations between the violence index and justifying attitudes, coercive control, jealousy or possessiveness, and alcohol consumption, while impulsivity and anger showed a weaker association. Conclusions: It was concluded that municipal prevention efforts should prioritize risk assessment, re-education programs, addressing alcohol consumption, judicial oversight, and inter-institutional coordination.
